Passion meets purpose

From the age of 13, Katie felt called to serve her community on Chicago’s southwest side. During high school, she experienced her own mental health challenges while also witnessing peers silently struggle with anxiety, grief, pressure, and stigma. These experiences revealed the deep need for safe spaces where young people can process emotions, ask honest questions, and feel supported.Growing a Heart for Whole-Person WellnessAfter graduating, she returned to her alma mater to lead health and wellness workshops before later engaging in health initiatives throughout Chicago and abroad. These experiences deepened her understanding of how systemic inequities impact emotional, mental, and physical well-being.

Grief, healing, and renewed faith

The sudden loss of her brother to a mental health crisis profoundly deepened her mission. Through grief, counseling, and a renewed faith in Christ, she experienced healing that transformed her understanding of identity, resilience, and purpose. This spiritual foundation shaped her passion for integrating mental and emotional wellness with faith and whole-person healing.

cultivating safe, youth centered spaces

Professionally, Katie has built trusted relationships with thousands of students across Chicago and has helped equip young adults nationwide with health knowledge and tools to support the youth they lead while strengthening community partnerships. Through this work, she has witnessed firsthand that when young people feel safe, supported, and valued, they grow in confidence and become advocates for themselves and others.

Turning vision into impact:WYU comes to life

These experiences led to the creation of Wellspring Youth United, a faith-based nonprofit focused on youth development and mental and emotional wellness. The organization draws inspiration from Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well — a moment marked by compassion, dignity, healing, and transformation. Just as she left the well renewed and became a messenger of hope to her community, Wellspring Youth United creates spaces where young people can come to the “Well” to heal, grow, and rise as leaders who bring hope, healing, and unity to others.

We cannot heal what we do not acknowledge. When young people are given safe spaces and genuine support transformation becomes possible.
